The Difference Between Iraq and Vietnam
- Vietnam was a single nation/people artificially divided by armistice. Iraq is not.
- The US strategy in Vietnam was a holding action. In Iraq it is victory through total liberation.
- Vietnam was a surrogate war against Peer/Near-Peer opponents. Iraq is not.
- The insurgent combatants in Vietnam were primarily Vietnamese. In Iraq they are foreigners; Syrians, Saudis, Jordanians and others.
- Communist Socialism was popularly thought viable during the Vietnam era. Radical Islam is not.
- There are no drafted US personnel in Iraq. 100% volunteers
- Iraq has huge reserves of natural resources to collaterize it's needs.
- During Vietnam, the media had the ability to control the information sphere.
